carnination issues with coopers sparkling ale
carnination issues with coopers sparkling ale
right, ive got a can of coopers sparkling ale ready to get on with but im kinda unsure about something. what amount of priming sugar should i be using? sounds like a daft question but would i carb just the same amount as a normal ale or would i need to add extra sugar to give the sparkling effect? id heard some good reviews about this kit so i thought id give it a try but im always quite skeptical about following the instructions completely as i don't always feel like i get enough information from them. if anyone can help me out id be a very happy man. cheers, ste

Prime it like a lager, to achieve the "sparkling".... if bottling i would use 3/4s of a teaspoon per bottle. or 180gram bulk prime!
dont keg it, it wont work!

Re: carnination issues with coopers sparkling ale
This is a lovely kit, but I was not satisfied with the level of carbonation in it. I made the mistake of using 1 Coopers carb drop per 500ml PET bottle. I got a very low level of carbonation as a result despite conditioning at room temperature for 3 weeks. Poor head retention too. Just one of those things. Maybe the higher gravity affects the carbonation rate, can any experienced brewers confirm this??
If I was you, I'd bulk prime with 150g dextrose for a 23l batch. Should give you a nice sparkle.

thanks for the info, ill definatly give that a try. ive been reading the instructions and i simply dont have all the recommended ingredients, was just gonna use the kit yeast and throw in about 1.2 k of dextrose instead. you still think its gonna have a decent flavour or do you think i should hold onto this kit till i can get hold of some dme? just thinking it might be a bit of a waste of a great kit if i dont brew it to its full potential

Waste of a kit IMO. That's a lot of simple sugar to be putting in a kit brew. You'd get much better results if you used at least some proportion of spraymalt.
Re: carnination issues with coopers sparkling ale
just ordered some spraymalt now. you think a 50/50 combination of spraymalt and dextrose would be ok? sorry for asking loads of questions but im still really new to this. thanks for your input, ste

id use 500Grm DSM light or medium & 700Grm dextrose (brew sugar) then short brew to 20Litres. that should give you a decent taste and strength!
when bottling bulk prime with 180-200Grams of sugar (plain house sugar is good enough, or dextrose if you want!)
and you'll get a nice fizz too!
