rekegging after pressure loss?

Post by Astroboy » Wed Feb 08, 2012 12:07 am

Hi all,

I'd gone to add a co2 bulb to my budget keg which is about 2/3 empty and the cap valve unscrewed somehow in the process and I lost all pressure  I've taken off the cap, tightened the valve and given the beer a swirl to get some gas up to force out the O2 and put the cap back on. I then added some co2 again through the bulbs. I'm not really worried that the beer might be flat but it seems to be dispensing alright anyway. Should I be ok that the beer won't oxidise/be infected now?
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Shane

Shane; I'm sure ye beer'll be fine, provided ye made it to drink, not as an ornament. Drink just a pint or two a week out of ye keg and ye looking at a higher chance of something going wrong, just because. Otherwise? Home brew is hardier than a good many people would like to give it credit for. " Infection " and sh!t is most decidedly rare and in the minority of episodes.

Some people really should chuck some Valium in their brews. Stop them worrying so much!

The CO2 will protect it from above, and the alcohol in the beer will preserve it, to a degree. If it's 2/3 empty you have about 12 pints in there. I'd finish that in a weekend easily, and get another brew on.

Points taken - I'll up both the valium and the drinking so
