A Wherry that hasn't stuck

Post by paulyp » Thu Feb 23, 2012 12:40 pm

Seems to happen a lot! but I did my 2nd brew the other Saturday, choosing a Wherry after everyone seems to rate it. I noticed the airlock stopped bubbling a couple of days ago, so as I have the day off I checked and yup it's down to 1014. Looking forward to bottling this on the weekend now (and getting to use my new bottling stick :D ). I just hope this brew clears [-o< as the first one is still really cloudy after 3 weeks in the cupboard under the stairs.

Cheers

Be patient and it should produce a cracking pint! I've only done one Wherry but that didn't stick and cleared quite quickly, they don't always misbehave! :D

Started my first ever brew last saturday (a wherry) just checked and its at 1011,will check over next few days and give it an extra few days for luck before transfering to keg, as its my first ever brew im not sure what it should look like or smell like, (smells quite nice when i open the spare room door, kinda sweet :=P) and the heads gone, not to sure what to expect with my 'virgin brew', just hope its drinkable [-o< !

hi all,
why bother checking the gravity, just leave it for 10days, that gives yeast chance to start to settle and the gravity should be ok and fv finished, why mess about with the chance of infection and just wait 10 days.

Hi duff, i had planned on leaving it for the 10 days, but as i have never used a hydrometer before,(this all being new to me), i figured its a way of trying it out, a learning curve of sorts! (all steralized of course!)

I bottled it today and I am now the proud father of 43 bottles of rather tasty wherry. I almost didn't make it to the end though as not only did I not have enough bottles sterilised and I only had one coolbox left to sterilise so it was a rushed affair. Add to that I only have one cap left I think it all went well, I love bottling sticks:)

nice one! sounds like you will soon have a very nice tipple on the go =D> , will get mine in the keg this week, would like to bottle but as this is my first attempt at brewing i figured i'd use the keg first and then read up a little more on botttling, seems a little more involved :?

I just got one down to 1010.
I put it down to plenty of air while mixing wort.
I pour the water from a great height.

Dazza I just copied Crowncap's bottling it post and it works really well, can't recommend getting a spare fv with a tap and bottling stick enough. I'd've been there hours without it
