different bottles different taste

Post by oucare » Thu Apr 26, 2012 9:35 am

hi guys!

so i made a batch of brewmakers' original lager following the recipe, except that for priming i used 90% dextrose and 10% maple syrup.

i've bottled into 3 different types of bottles: .33L with crown caps, .50L with crown caps and 1L with swingtops.

i bottled from bottling keg so they should all have the same amount (depending on the volume of course) of priming sugar in them.

when i felt it was ready, i tried it from each bottle and they all tasted great, but they all tasted differently. it wasnt a big difference but it was noticable.

let me say that i dont have a problem with that, but i just want to know if anyone has an idea why this would happen.

thanks

hommebru

the greater the volume, the quicker it conditions. i'm not sure if they'd be much difference between the 330 and 500, but you might notice something more between the 33o and 1ltr.

if it's not that, then maybe you didn't rinse fully with each set??? don't know mate.

hommebru beat me to it but this is what I was going to say...

I read somewhere that the time it takes for beer to condition can depend on volume. You have 3 different volumes, 3 slightly different stages of conditioning.

Sure you got a good seal on the bottles ? My last brewferm trippel was put into the nasty "twist off" cheapie bottles and as a result some of the cap seals weren't as good as others and the taste was markedly different - Im assuming this was down to a greater degree of oxidation of the beer in the poorer sealed bottles.
