Young's Definitive

Post by Shaun21 » Fri Apr 27, 2012 10:36 pm

Hi all, I've brewed this beer

Image

It looks good and is crystal clear but the taste isn't that great, you can tell it's homebrew as it has that twang. I used a malt extract as a fermentable and a campden tablet to sort the water out but that hasn't made it any better...

It looks good but the taste isn't there...

I don't know what to do,

Does anyone have any knowledge that will resolve my problem?

Thanks guys!

What was the actual kit you used?
What temp ya brew at?
How long you leave it for in the FV?
How long did you age it?

More info please :P

General nod would probably go to dry hopping

I assume this is the youngs definitive lager kit. Did it a while back and it took an age to carbonate and not the greatest taste. If i recall it was a cheapish kit that deffo needed extra fermentables. Looks nice and clear but bit lifeless. as above more info on brewing conditions needed to comment

My bad,

It was the Young Definitive Lager, got given it so thought I'd give it a try.
It is brewed at 21 degrees for 10 days, I use a fish tank heater so keeping a constant temperature is no problem.
It has been ageing for 2 months now :(

Yeah I agree it is lifeless, not sure I used enough sugar to prime.

That does look likely mate. Easiest way is to batch prime then keep warm for a while but as I said it didnt turn out that great for me. Just a basic kit i guess really but hey! it was free and didnt turn to vinegar
