Mix of Sugars - Coopers Kit

Post by bellyot » Mon Jun 18, 2012 7:40 pm

Hi All.
Probably a pointless question, but I'd like to know if there's a reason that on my Coopers IPA kit it suggests 500g Dry Malt and 300g Dextrose/Sugar?
Why wouldn't they just say to use 800g Dry Malt?

Just wondering really!
Cheers.

It is to encourage you to but a Coopers BKE 1 or BKE 2 pack which is a pre mixed DME/Dextrose mix.
Personaly, I would buy 1kg of Extra Light DME (Dried Malt Extract) & 1kg of brewing sugar.
Add 3/4 of the DME and 1/2 the sugar to the kit and save the excess for the next kit.

I brewed this kit, I used 500g of hopped light DME and about 400g of dextrose. Brewed to 20L.

It turned out quite tasty, still working my way through it.
