Saflager Yeast in higher temps

Post by fxrs » Thu Jun 21, 2012 4:59 pm

I used Saflager S23 yeast in a recent Muntons Pils and the lager brewed was very good. The brewing was done in the colder months so keeping the brew in the yeasts optimum temp of 9-15 degree wasnt a problem.

With warmer temps now upon us I doubt I could keep the temp in the 9-15 degree range. This yeast can do the biz up to 21 according to the sales blurb.

I'm about to start another Muntons Pils and not sure if its best to use the S23 again despite the higher temps or go with something else.

Grateful for your thoughts on this :)

Hi. get a fridge and a temperature controller and continue brewing with lager yeast. I've brewed at various temeratures and low and slow is without doubt the way to go with lager yeast.

Loads of good advice in the equipment section on this forum, and finally warm brewed lager is still drinkable, just not as nice.
