After making kit wines for years I've now got my very first kit beer on the go, and I'm a little bit puzzled about its SG. It's 40 pints of Munton's Porter, by the way.
I started it last Saturday lunchtime and the OG was 1.040. The kit instructions reckon it should be down to no more than 1.014 in 7 days. Does 1.020 on day 5 (today) seem about right to end up below 1.014 after another 48 hours?
If not, what if anything do I do about that?

Re: How's my gravity looking?
Hi
The time scales on kit instructions can be a little optimistic for every aspect of the process!
As long as its around 20C, the yeast should do its thing and your reading will drop. The last few points of gravity can take a few days to drop.

Re: How's my gravity looking?
Hey, thanks Monkeybrew. So I just let it do until I get the same reading for two days, as long as that's under 1.014, then I bottle it?
Re: How's my gravity looking?
All the kits seem to say 4 days to a week. I've started leaving mine 2 weeks and then checking. A week's not normally enough.
