Air lock cap came off :(

Post by neilmcca » Thu Jun 21, 2012 9:40 pm

Hello,
Quick question,
got a Coopers kit fermenting, been at SWMBO's for a day, came back this afternoon to find the cap on the bubble airlock had been blown off :(
no idea how long it's been off, somewhere upto 24 hours maximum,
done 10+ kits upto now and this is the first time its happened,
how likely is this batch to survive ?

thanks.

Neil.

was there still liquid in the airlock? if so, no problem, there are a lot who don't even use them, just loosely cover FV.

its only a dust cap really so there should be no problem with the brew......

Really would'nt worry - just cover it with something - I just leave the lid loose. Bloody airlocks really aren't worth the hassle.

People just used to put a damp towel over the bin.

only a dust cap really
not on that model of lock, the top bit has a tube in the middle that diverts the co2 downn into the water held in the bottom bit, however dont think youve got anything to worry about .if its still fermenting its still producing co2,thats keeping the oygen out

It's no problem at all, happened to me a few times. I just put a piece of sellotape over it now but it won't cause any harm if it comes off.
