Re: choose a lager
Coopers Heritage Lager is a tasty kit that clears and conditions quite quickly.
It also comes with a ale/lager yeast mix that helps create a fairly clean tasting brew if you can ferment at 20C or below.
I if you brew with 1kg of Extra Light DME and 250g of dextrose, you should end up with Lager near to 5%

I like coopers pilsner, but it does benifit from brewing at a lower temperature.

Re: choose a lager
I've done both Coopers Pilsner and European Lager a few times, always with great success, but as has been said, always when I can brew them at low temps, bottle them, a week or so in the warm to kick off conditioning, then back to low temps for a good long while.
If you want a 'lager that isn't a lager because it uses ale yeast' ~ which is no bad thing in our climate, to be honest, I rate Coopers Canadian Blonde as the best out there. Takes modification gracefully as well (try it with 1Kg of brew enhancer, which has been boiled in 3 litres of water with 25 - 30g of Saaz hops ofr 15 mins, followed by a Saaz 25 - 30 g hop tea... all added to the FV. Mmmmmmm... hoppy...mmmmm )
Just my opinion, like

Re: choose a lager
I brewed one of these (BB czech pilsner) a couple of months ago (startred 8th May), bottled on 24th May, been conditioning in garage since 3rd June... Gotta say, haven't been too impressed by it... I've seen lots of people say that it's a really good brew and theyre more than happy with it, but I can't say same unfortunately...lee1 wrote:Hi all thanks for the input will try these suggestions but got talked into buying a better brew czech pils it sounds great has anyone brewed this ? My main gripe with it, is that the yeast just doesn't clump very well... When brewing, I managed to get it fairly clear by leaving on garage floor for about 4-5 days. Move on bench to syphon, and this movement, as well as syphoning action, must've disturbed the yeast, but it came back in to the bottling bucket...
Bottles are nice and clear, leave in fridge for a bit, and chill nicely, open, pour, and about half way through the bottle, the yeast starts mixing back in...
Overall taste is ok... Not brilliant, but not worthy of chucking :p Hopefully mine was just a freak problem...

Re: choose a lager
There is something about the bb czech pils I like but there is also something I don't. I keep meaning to brew it with lager yeast to see if it's the yeast, I'll get round to it one day.
