Hi all
Im going to brew the above next week, and was wondering how would I give it a chilli kick. What from you guys experience would be the best - a scotch bonnet left in the fermenter for a week, a birds eye in each bottle or summat else that has worked for you?
cheers in advance - Steiney
Brewferm Diablo...adding chillies?
Re: Brewferm Diablo...adding chillies?
Hi millemg - if you're asking why chillies...Im sure you know chilli beers/stouts have been going for decades (even if it is a bit gimmicky to some). If you're asking is along the lines of why ruin a perfectly good Belgium kit - thats a decision for my (admittedly shot!) taste buds. Seriously though Ive been a diabetic for some years & whilst this in combo with being a homebrewer isnt probably a match made in heaven - I am interested in seeing if certain ingredients/spices known to be beneficial in blood sugar control (turmeric/cumin / chillies etc) might make a difference for me. I dont do pints of session ales anymore because of my condtion - but if I can still have the odd weekend bottle of strong, quality ale - and find that tampering with the ingredients stops some of the negative affects of the carbs I'll be happy(er),
Re: Brewferm Diablo...adding chillies?
The Mexican Red eye chili beer website states that "a Serrano Chili Pepper is dropped by hand into every bottle. The base beer is a premium lager made from the finest hand picked ingredients.".
Here is a link through to a recipe where they use roasted chilies. : http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to- ... er-Recipe/
Please let me know it as I have six chili plants in the green house and this way be one way to use them instead of making pickled chilies.

Thanks Soutie - checked out the link & the temptation (for ease) is to plonk a single pepper into each bottle as in the photo.
Will let you know how it turns out, but as you prob know the brewferm range take a while to reach their best (earliest Im thinking is the festive season)...so hope your pepper plants dont grow too rampant!
Thanks again - Steiney
