Dissapointing coopers Pils

Post by DannyW » Sat Jul 21, 2012 9:56 pm

After some very successfull brews tonight I have tasted my first bottle of coopers pils made to recipe. I used bottled water and temp controlled it for 3 weeks in the FV at 13 degrees. I have conditioned it for over 60 days.

If I take a good swig it feels like it's drying my mouth out. It doesn't smell bad. No doubt I will still drink it but I find it really disappointing compared to my previous brews :(

I want to give it another try this winter when the temps are more suitable to brew so I'm wondering if it's supposed to be this dry?

I did one a while back and it was a little dry but not that bad. What was the FG, Sounds like you had a very good ferment and most of the sweetness has been fermented out.

1008 was my FG, I will give it another try to see if I can get a better flavour :(

I used 500g Muntons Foil Pack Spraymalt and 300g dextrose.

I used 1kilo of BKE. I think my FG was about the same but it would have had some unfermentables left to give it a bit of sweetness.

That makes 800g maybe try 900g as everything has gone there's nothing left as mentioned a slight sweetness. I haven't brewed this before am I an expert just if something 1kg I presume there's logic behind it though I anit having a dig just my personal thoughts

To be honest, i have found Coopers to be kinda disapointing, i have done a few and the last 2 Blonde and Cerveza lack body and taste, i used 1kg BKE on both, i still have 3 coopers kits to go and a single can muntons, the euro and bock will be done during the colder months, but the other 2 i think i will do and put in 2ltr plastic bottles as i don't want to grace them with glass bottles

I am sticking to 2 can kits from the now, waiting on my Sundew and Ruby to mature

The sundew is the 1st time i have made a brew that was drinkable out of the FV, i had a wee half bottle when i was bottling it, so really looing forward to week 6 and onwards

But from now on, i am strickly a 2 can man
