Is the H & B malt extract and the barley malt extract advertised on amazon the same stuff that is used for brewing ie ' 2 row malted barley ' as advertised on the home brew kits ? or is it some sort of different food grade barley malt extract ? Does it need boiling ? etc... That stuff on amazon seems a bargain if it does the job. =D>

I have used H&B malt extract....not sure what grade it is (food i would imagine). It does seem good, but I am reserving judgement as I have used it with Brown suger in my brews and it has come out well in brews like stout. But not so with a mild i did in March (that is slowly improving but not much), or the coopers Dark I made in May. The Coopers Sparkling ale I did with 3 jars of this stuff and 907gs of golden syrup was /is amazing at 6.5% and still getting better after 5 months in the bottle :D

I have just kegged a Coopers IPA made with two jars (908gs) and nothing else. The taste at this stage is very encouraging.

Seems the brown sugar may be giving the odd flavours #-o

RE: PRICE It costs £2.29 now and every few weeks they do buy one get another half price = £3.44 per 908gs (keep an eye on the Holland and barrett website), which is similar to the amazon stuff per Kilo per £ 8)

Cheers ...Hippo

I've just bought a Finlandia Dark Ale from this company it's a 16l kit for 5.45, I also bought a 1.5kg tin of brewferm medium malt extract from here at a reasonable price http://www.thehomebrewcompany.co.uk/mal ... -1272.html . I intend making the kit up with the tin of malt and 500g dme to 20l so hopefully should turn out okay. I did one of these last year and it was very good. I thought this companies prices very reasonable.

I e a h&b a minuites walk from mine on a retail outlet and it's buy one get one half price all the time. Just been to a normal high street one today as its buy one get one for a penny, however the malt is not in the deal.

I've done 1 brew with a bke and all the rest I've fine with 2 jars h£b and either 1 jar honey or 1 jar golden syrup and they have been much better than the bke in my opinion

Cheers
