elderflower???
My wife drinks elderflower cordial. The other day I thought.I wonder what that shit tastes like.So I tried some. Then I thought. That would add a nice touch to a light summer ale. There's bugger all additives in it.What you think?

Re: elderflower???
I reckon it would go really well with the right sort of hops, something like cascade. I like light beers with a floral aroma and elderflowers should do the trick on that score.
Re: elderflower???
What I was thinking was using a coopers APA kit.For a light beer I'd usually add a jar of H&B malt with 500gms brewing sugar.
Could I just chuck the cordial into the Fv during primary.Hopefully the sugar in the cordial would ferment out with the rest.

Re: elderflower???
I think I would get some dried elderflowers and make an elderflower tea in a similar way to making a hop tea - you can buy the dried elderflowers from places such as this http://www.hamstead-brewing-centre.co.uk/itm00445.htm Put them in a muslin bag and steep tham in hot water as much or as little as you like for your taste. I don't know about putting cordial into the brew though.
Re: elderflower???
Think I'll go with the flowers cheers!
Any benefit to using the tea procedure rather than just chucking the dried flowers straight in the fv?

Re: elderflower???
I couldn't really say, never actually having done it. I suppose that making a tea will extract some flavour from the elderflowers and putting them dry into the FV would be a bit like dry hopping. I would still put them in a bag for convenience though, or try some of these tea bag things on sale here http://www.hamstead-brewing-centre.co.uk/itm01584.htm It's worth having a look around their website for some interesting ideas. Not sure if any other site sells these tea bag things.
Re: elderflower???
Hi,
I have used both fresh elderflowers 25g and dried 50g for my elderflower pale ales and those quantities boiled for 20-30 minutes add enough of a floral note providing you dont go too mad with extra bittering hops.

p.s Stomach / Monkey ... I've not forgot about sending you a sample... i'll get on it next week.

Re: elderflower???
This is one I made back in march, great light pint and the elderflower gives it a floral nose although a lady friend described it as perfumey.
