Chocolate Stout

Post by GinnyMc » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:56 am

Hello, I'm very new to this (forum and home brewing!)
I'd like to modify a stout kit someone bought me by adding a chocolatey hint. I haven't any idea how to do this. I've read about cocoa nibs/cocoa powder and lactose combinations, just wondered what the simplest way of injecting some chocolatey ooomph would be??? :|

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Sounds a great recipe, I've ordered some choc malt, have some fairly dark M extract, can't decide on the essence or nibs yet. I'd prefer the cocoa beans I think, it just seems a bit 'purer' (I know, I know, I'm brewing from a tin!!) But it'll most likely come down to cost. Once my buckets free I'll begin the experiment! :-)

You only need the essence.

£1.79

Yes but the cHocolate malt will give a dryer texture I believe so the chocolate isn't all consuming. Where would one get the essence from

Where can I get the essence? I live in East Anglia and there isn't a decent home brew shop for miles! :-( Also I don't want the chocolate to over power, just a backgrouond hint would be nice. Don't want a 'flavouring' or synthetic taste....trial and error on that score I guess.

I if the coopers recipe with just the choc malt and it tastes very very similar to Young's Double Chocolate Stout

Why trial and error ? Didn't you read the thread, and look at the mail order link ? Thought not

I'll be trying it too I was the first replied to a question and only remembered it because I was looking at the Russian black stout recipe but hey no point poking in the dark if someone's been there. I seriously think this site needs a recipe tab in the right hand corner so others can share. There successfully recipes and then others rate it when they've trIed it
