Opening Of My Eyes

Post by DannyJalapeno » Thu Sep 13, 2012 5:17 pm

Since becoming interested in the fine art of home brewing, I have realised just how many home brew shops are close to me. I really am in a fortunate position compared to some of posters on the forum. Yet before my interest, I had not noticed them. Its amazing how much a new hobby can open your eyes. Now just to order my starter kit, and I'm away.

Welcome to the forum and have you decided which starter kit to get ? there are quite a few on the market. My recommendation would be the Coopers microbrewery. It's a little expensive but it's top quality kit that can be used time and again and absolutely everything you need. I think the woodfordes wherry starter kit is very good also.

Hmm. What reports have ye heard on that one? I know their Cerveza's gnats piss. Can't remember now what I've been told about the Blonde and the European though.

It's not that bad really, I'm no lager drinker, I only brew it now and again for my youngest son he's 23 and not moved onto beer that tastes of something yet, but I live in hope. Anyway back to the Canadian Blonde, my neighbour brews it regularly and as far as lager goes it's pretty good. So if your a lager drinker you should be happy enough with it :D

Just finished a Blond and it was very nice. Almost as good as the Euro that has replaced it on the pump. The Euro has the edge IMO but it has been lagering for 8 weeks where as the blond only got about a week and a half before it was tapped.

My pallet hasn't moved onto proper ale yet, I'm more of a lager fan. I have becomed somewhat disillusioned with the standard pub lager (not that it stops me drinking it). If my brew it turns out drinkable, then that'll be a start for me, considering I'm a novice. I have heard that the Ceverza isn't right cracking, but I still fancy having a bash with it at some point.

I know its early days for you mate but when you do the cerveza a bit of hop tea or some steeped citrus peel added to wort will improve it no end
Just like trying new ideas!

Danny how's your kit going?

Just tried my wheat beer. Was really worried that I'd screwed up by not rinsing bottles at all after sanitising ... but all is fine.

Just brewed up an IPA today, so that'll be nice.

The euro comes good after about 3 months, the Blonde is a bit on the bland side, i just found 3 bottles of blonde in my loft, they have been bottled for 15 weeks

One is in the fridge now so will report back when i tan it tonight, i gave a couple to my old man and he really enjoyed it but he is a larger drinking, so there is no counting for taste

The cerveza is a whole different story, it is nothing but yellow fizzy pish water, carling or tennents has more taste and those are like dish water!

 Okay. Stop right there. 'Nuff said. Nothing alcoholic survives in This place for three f**king months! No way!

I slung a load of my own stuff together, yesterday? Probably be amongst it by Monday or Tuesday. Needs must. And no reason why not! Fermented at about 21 C, it'll be fine

The trick is to brew like mad till you have at least 240 pints maturing in the loft out of the way while you drink Sheperd Neame brews for the 240 bottles needed to bottle the brews needing maturing,

Ok just opened a 15 week bottle of Blonde

Has a good head and not overly carbonated

Taste is nothing like a Blonde you get sold, it has more a mouthy feel than the cerveza with a delicate fruity taste, all in all it's actually not bad, not great, but not bad, it would suit lager drinkers as it is quite mellow in taste, no overly strong taste but still has a distinct commercial taste, it reminds me of the Glaswegian West breweries beer

Don't think i would get again, but for a starter kit it would be good to use to get into the hobby as it isnt bad, but as you progress and get differnt kits you see the difference between 1 and 2 can kits

The euro is another i liked but needs a long maturity

After this i am cracking open a Ruby to get my taste buds to work!
