Coopers Stout

Post by bazookajoe » Fri Sep 28, 2012 8:05 pm

Not made this in a while as I'd been trying a few of the Beers of the World range, but finally got round to getting the Coopers Stout on. Made to 20l if I remember right, with 1kg dark spraymalt (mixed in with the plasterers stirrer on the drill for the first time, that's just amazing, dog did a runner didn't know what was happening). Sat it in a Tesco trugg thingy for the spew, and it sat in the FV for 3 weeks before I got round to bottling it, and after it being in the bottle for a week and a half I had the first one last night. That stuff truly is fab.

It just knocks the socks off any other stout I've tasted, homebrew or bought. The neighbour gave me some bottles of Guinness Original the last weekend for helping him move his washing machine, and like normal Guinness I just can't taste anything stoutish about it at all. So it's good timing that the Coopers Stout is ready. Another one getting opened soon methinks.

That's all really

Just put one of these in the fv yesterday, had a peak this morning and the spew is just touching the lid. Really looking forward to this one! Encouraged by all the good reports. Cheers!

Coopers Stout is almost legendary on this forum with the definitive way of brewing it being with a kilo of DME and a mug of cane sugar. I've just put 40 bottles of it out in my shed after a week in a warm cupboard. Having said that I want to take the opportunity to shout the praises of Brupaks Beers of the World Irish Stout, it only make 10 litres so appears a bit expensive at around 12 quid, but you don't need to buy any extras such as DME. Still only works out at about 70p ish for a 500ml bottle and it tastes very very good. So it's definitely well worth brewing just one Beers of the World Irish Stout just as a really nice change, you wont be disappointed
