I am very tempted by the Wilkos offer at the moment, a free 1kg bag of brewing sugar with all their own brand kits. I have been eyeing up their Stout since it came out. Now I know the answer here is brew it with some DME, but how bad would it be to brew it with the 1kg of the sugar?
I have a brupak flavapak that I will add to it, but is this even worth doing, or will I be brewing up 40 pints to simply pour down the drain - are there many out there who regularly just use sugar??
At £10 for the whole batch, I guess it might be worth a punt.....?
Cheers

Alright,
You won't be brewing something that'd need tipping down the drain, that's for sure. It might not be the best beer in the world, possibly a bit thin and weaker on flavour. But I'm sure there was a thread on here somewhere in the last couple of days where someone rated the Wilkos kits as being pretty reasonable on their own.
When I started doing kits the first couple I did were just sugar before I learned the other options, and I quite happily drank it!

Thanks for that, good to know it may well turn out ok - I think for the money it's worth a try. Hoping the flavapak boosts the flavour a bit, plan on leaving it for 6 weeks in the bottle before drinking anyway - patience is probably the key with the cheaper kits
Re: Just how bad will it be?
I am drinking my way through a brew of Wilko's Hoppy Copper Bitter. It is acceptable, but rather dull. I made it with enhancer, instead of sugar too. My suggestion would be to throw in a bag of medium DME, as well as the brewing sugar, and and a handul (10g - 20g) dry hops into the fermenter. Also, unless you have your own spring-fed well, use bottled water.

Re: Just how bad will it be?
you dont have to use all the sugar at once, get some DME mix , save some of the brewing sugar for another go
no palate, no patience.
Drinking - of course

Id get the stout and "Ditch it".... keep the sugar for priming and such other jobs
