geordie kit and beer enhancer

Post by Wherryman13 » Sun Oct 21, 2012 12:40 pm

Hi All
did brewing years ago ( boots days) and then got back into it this year using the Woodefordes Wherry kits ---MMMmmm
anyhow decided to give the Geodie Bitter kit a go and was given a Geordie Beer enhancer 1kg bag with it
According to the instructions on the enhancer bag this substitutes the normal brewing sugar addition
anyone tried it and recommend anything else to add or should it give a good result anyhow ?
Grateful for any feedback
ps picked up 3 x Wherry kits when Wilkos had them on offer at £15 ---bargain :=P and looking at their own Real Ale kit it all appears to be the same product as in the Woodefordes Kit =D> ---will give that one a whirl once the Wherry ones have been despatched ............. :)

The Geordie Beer enhancer is ideal for your purposes. If brewed properly you should end up with a nicely balanced and palatable session ale. Someone may suggest enhancing the kit with extra hops etc but I suggest you brew it as it is intended (using a kilo of fermentables with at least 50% malt extract - avoid the use of too much ordinary sugar) and tweaking it, if you feel tweaking is needed, in future brews.

Not sure how experienced a brewer you are but remember to sterilise and rinse all equipment first, ferment it properly (be patient) and then mature the beer, although I find Geordie Bitter is drinkable after only ten days in the bottle.

Definitely agree with avoiding sugar, I brewed a Geordie Mild with 1kg of Tate and Lyles finest. After 6 weeks in the keg, it had matured reasonably well, but I cant help wishing Id used beer enhancer!

Just put on a geordie winter warmer for christmas. 1 kilo of enancer and half a kilo of medium spray malt. All bought in Wilkinsons thius very morning. I brew a lot of geordie kits and can recommend the brew kit enancer. Makes for lovely beer. Cheers, Martin.
