Hi All. I've just been looking in my Camra home brew book and there is a recipe for winter warmer, which is made with
3Kg lager kit
1.5Kg malt extract
200g black malt
400g cane sugar
Brewed to 23lts
Has anyone tried this and if so is it any good? Also, looks like it might be a bit pricy. How would it be if I used a 1.8Kg kit, halved the rest of the ingredients and made it up to 11-12 lts,
Cheers
Winter Warmer

Re: Winter Warmer
Or maybe toucan the geordie winter warmer kit to a full 23. Have just kegged a single kit..first impressions, bit underpowered for a seasonal brew even with the 500g spraymalt,500g bs I added
Just like trying new ideas!

Ok- The recipe I'm looking at gives OG= 1068, FG= 1013, ABV= 7.2%, which seems pretty good- just a bit pricy when you add it all up- £22 ish just for the lager kit.

Disappointing - I have just bought one of these. I suppose the price should be a give away?timbo41 wrote:Or maybe toucan the geordie winter warmer kit to a full 23. Have just kegged a single kit..first impressions, bit underpowered for a seasonal brew even with the 500g spraymalt,500g bs I added
Re: Winter Warmer
I was gonna toucan the Geordie winter warmer kit myself, but someone I asked about it reminded me that it would then have double the amount of spice/hops you'd want. So, I ended up using 1 can, 1kg dme and 500g sugar, 600g golden syrup. taste from sample wasn't great, but not bad. Ended up about 6%...
Will see what final result is like in a few weeks...

Couldn't honestly say I could taste any spices..was expecting a sort of mulled taste. Time will tell
