Need some help PLZ !!!

Post by johnnywhoosh » Sun Nov 04, 2012 11:19 am

Good morning all !
Please can you help ? I put my first brew on last Wednesday afternoon hoping it would be ready to bottle today. I've checked it with the hydrometer and the black line is above the beer level which i believe indicates its not quite ready ?
The problem i have is that i will be away from tomorrow morning untill Wednesday afternoon. Should i leave the heater belt on or not ? Will the brew be ok?

Thanks for looking - John :?

Most kits say four to six days but this isn't realistic. I always leave ten to fourteen days in the fermenter, particularly as the weather is colder at the moment. I also find leaving a little longer in the fermenter gets clearer beer going into the bottles.

I leave mine for 14 days in the fermenter with the heating source of choice still on the whole time. It will be fine. What are you brewing?
Cheers, Martin.

If your using a heater belt leave it up the top end of the FV. if you leave it at the bottom you run the risk of it getting too warm. A couple of weeks in the FV is fine, better than bottling too early

Most lower gravity beers are pretty much done fermenting in four to six days, but there is more going on that requires you leave it on the yeast for longer. Ten to fourteen is the least I'd leave it. I usually go two to three weeks.
I'm just here for the beer.
