Brupaks 'beers of the world' Czech pilsner
Brupaks 'beers of the world' Czech pilsner
Hi All,
been a while since my last post topic
I have a question regarding the Brupaks' 'Beers of the world' beer kits.
Has anyone brewed the Czech pilsner? I wonder how it went and, as usual for this forum, if anyone modified or did anything differently.
As always your helps is always gratefully received and I'll update you on the progress of this beer.

Re: Brupaks 'beers of the world' Czech pilsner
I did the Czech Pilsner around 18 months ago. It was only my 2nd ever kit so I didn't have much clue what I was doing. It turned out pretty well, though it was a bit fruity. I'm guessing that was because I fermented it too warm. It comes with a proper lager yeast and I made no effort to control the temperature.
I have just bought another one to do this week. I'm going to try to control the temperature with a water bath this time. Would love to invest in a brew fridge but I think I would need to invest in a bigger house first!
The Beers of the World kits in general I think are pretty high quality. I did the Black Country Mild a few months ago (I'm from the Black Country) and I thought it was fantastic.
Cheers

Re: Brupaks 'beers of the world' Czech pilsner
I did one last year, but 'did it 'properly', i.e pitched with a liquid yeast stepped up to the proper amount and fermented cold (~10C). . . . I also gave it a short boil (15min) with some Saaz hops.
It's turned out pretty good, and several I have given it to did not realise that it was a kit. . . . Personally I think the flavours are a little 'muddy' and its lacking in hop bitterness.

Not made the Pilsner, but made a few of the Beers of the World range and all have been great. I'd say follow the instructions, for the first time anyway, then modify next time around if you wanted. The grains and hop tea bag that comes with the kit pretty much give all the flavour needed.
Re: Brupaks 'beers of the world' Czech pilsner
I've often nearly bought one, but chickened out because of the cost/brew length. Now extract brewing which is costing between fifteen and thirty quid a brew, so have less of a fear of price.
Looking forward to hearing how it turns out Otters.

Hi
I should be brewing on Saturday, I have 2 x Czech Pilsner kits to take me to 20Ltrs or thereabouts. Fermenting with 2 x sachets of saflager w40/70
Here what you say about price Cellone I usually mash. never attempted bottom fermentation before so wanted to focus on fermentation - hence kits.
Does anyone know how to upload photo's? if you do some assistance would be handy and I'll do my best to get some pictures of the brew!
Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

I thought the kit comes with bottom feeding yeast.

hi
i've tried three of the brupaks kits - bavarian pilsner, bavarian weissbier an belgian dubbel. The pilsner was excellent, the dubbel is currently maturing but i somehow mucked up the weissbeir as it was rancid and was off.
dead easy instructions to follow unfortunately they just produce 10l

Hi All
This beer has been in the bottle now for a few weeks after a month largering in the barrel. At first - I'll be honest - it tasted of tangy kit brews with some green apple on the nose - and a bit skunky! I thought it was a right-off. However, on a tasting yesterday, the 'green apples' have gone and there is now a reasonable pilsner, my thoughts are that it will improve further given more maturation time - I'll let you know.
Not for the faint hearted, this kit, and you'll probably get better results by undertaking a coopers lager OR if you entertain mashing; 'the Brupaks Bavarian Pilsner Mash Kit' which gave good results.
I've got another thread somewhere about the result of that method.
