Advice on Desperadoes copy

Hi everyone,

my daughter and her friends (students - need I say more?) have asked if i can make a Desperadoes (mexican lager with tequila) copy.
I thought I ought to ask for a bit of advice here before I tried anything, so anyone got any ideas on the following -
I'm thinking I'll need a fairly light lager kit, any suggestions?
I might also add a bit of lime to it, should I steep the rind of a couple of limes in water for a bit, or add the juice, or give it a miss?
Anyone ever addeed tequila to a brew? I assume it's done at bottling, although the Desperadoes label says "tequila flavour" so i assume they don't actually use the real thing.

Any information gratefully received.

The coopers Cerveza kit made up with 750g of brewing sugar will give you the base lager, after its cleared and ready to bottle / keg I would add 1/3-1/2 a bottle of Stones Ginger Wine and 1/3 of a bottle of Gold tequilla.
You shouldn't be far off the mark with a recipe like that.

If you intend to drink any yourself, wouldn't it be nicer with 1 x lager kit + 1 kg extra light or wheat dme, instead of sugar? You may decide to only mix tequila with (destroy) a part of the brew, so it'd be good to have the rest as a nice light post-work refresher!

Also, I wonder whether it'd be worth (flavour and price) putting some agave syrup in - maybe as the priming sugar?

Haha, thanks Chivelegs.
probably good advice, but I did say they were students, so they might well have already tried this!

As for the sugar, I'd use malt extract instead of sugar anyway, but I was just worried that a few people have said the Mexican lager kits aren't very good.

Like the 1/3 bottle of tequila though!

TBH, I would use brewing sugar or Coopers brew enhancer 1 as you want a light and farily thin lager, DME will add too much malty body IMO.
