Hi guys,

Has anyone tried adding t&l black treacle to the coopers stout? If so how much did you put in and was it good?

Cheers

I used about 100g in 23 litres and it's excellent. I wouldn't go much higher though.

It depends how much extra malt you add - just getting through a batch made with 1 x 1.7kg kit, 1.0kg ex dark DME and 450g BT.

BT does work. Just be careful and patient because adding too much makes it taste wierd. Also, when you're bottling it will always taste a bit pungent and it takes a while to mature but after 6-8+ weeks in the bottle, it's smooth and hearty.

Thanks again roots brew, in your opinion which would be better 1kg DME and 450g BT or 500g DME and 900g BT?

I made one as per Ditch's Stout, with a standard 454g tin of T&L black treacle added. It was fantastic.

I done a Milestone Black Pearl with 200g of black treacle ,the treacle can be over-powering ,had to leave for months before it was drinkable , ,it does give a stout a nice flavour though, but id take it handy with amounts of treacle as a little goes a long way .
