How long in fv before bottling

Post by Newbrew1 » Thu Mar 07, 2013 8:20 pm

Right taking my krausen collar off tomorrow how long should I leave brew in fv after taking fg constant for 3 days or leave it a bit longer say 2 weeks to let the yeast clear some of the bad effects up is leaving it 2 and a half weeks too long before bottling [-o<

Once the fg has stabalized you can bottle it right away it will just throw a bit more sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Leaving it for a bit longer wont hurt so long as you keep the beer covered and don`t disturb the CO2 covering the surface. Two and a half weeks will be fine but I`d go for sooner rather than later as there`s always a risk of infection if the beer isn`t sealed in either bottle or keg.

I ended up out for business and from start to finish in the FV my IPA sat for 4weeks. It came out clear and looks good in bottles. (1week)

2½ weeks is no problem.

I usually leave my ales at fermentation temp for 7-10 days and crash cool for 2-4 days before touching them.

I have had a couple sitting for 5-6 weeks without problem.
One thing to keep into account is that eventhough you can not see/hear any activity, the yeast will still be alive and help clear up the beer and get rid of some unwanted compounds.
