Wilko Sweet Newkie Brown

Brewed one of these a few weeks ago just to see what these ten quid kits are like. I was tempted to play around with extra hops and stuff but decided to go with straight brewing sugar so I could actually see what the bog standard kit was actually like. The only thing I did differently was to brew to 20 litres instead on 23.

Just decided to have my first taste of this whilst watching the football. Been in the bottle for just over a week and although it's still a bit young it actually doesn't taste all that bad for a budget kit. It's nothing like Newcastle Brown at all IMO, if anything it's slightly Mild-like. It does have a sweetness as the name would suggest which I'm not usually a fan of but perhaps that will subside the longer it stays in the bottle.

All in all I think it's not too bad. It's not going to pull up any trees or anything but for ten sheets including free brewing sugar it'll fill a gap between proper brews.
