Brewing with Holland & Barrett Malt Extract

Post by Irish.Brew » Tue Nov 19, 2013 12:38 am

I have a few jars of Holland & Barrett Malt Extract and was wondering if anyone has used this before for brewing?

I'm thinking of throwing it in along with a Coopers Brewmaster Irish Stout instead of sugar/spraymalt.

I've used it in place of sugar in a stout kit I did back in the dim and distant - worked ok to my taste buds but others have said that it gave off flavours. Its quite often used for yeast starters.

It's a lot better than using sugar, It's probably not going to be like a specific two row brewing malt but it's fine to use as the added fermentables in a kit brew especially the darker ales and stouts and will give more body and flavour to the brew than brewing sugar. It may be a little to dark for very pale beers but that's just a colour thing. Don't waste it get it in the FV
