Warm cupboard ....? Is there anything else in there with it, Chris?

I only ask because I tend to make up Coopers Stout with added warmth. And the fermentation on That stuff can get a little startling, once it kicks off.

Just thinking: If your stuff went off anything like mine. And you had it, say, in the Airing Cupboard ..... With the wifes washing ..... Things could get 'Emotional'

Hi Chris

After reading your hydro thread, it sounds as though your brew is fermenting, so it may not be necessary to add a heater to your brew, especially if it's in the airing cupboard.

I would carefully check the temperature of the actual brew with a sanitised thermometer.

Also it sounds as though your airlock has been giving you a bum steer, but I'll let ditch educate on that subject!

Have you got a scum ring around the inside wall of your FV at the top?

Cheers

Sounds like your vigorous phase of fermentation is over then, but your brew will keep quietly dropping gravity points over the next few days.

Don't be in a rush to bottle or keg the brew once it's reached a stable gravity (constant for 3 days), because the yeast will start to clean up unwanted by-products (flavours) in your brew. Yeast plays a significant part in the final flavour of a brew, hench the need for a correct and stable fermentation temperature.

I ferment in a temperature controlled fridge (Brewfridge), and it has made a big improvement to a finished beer.

Anyway, try not to lay awake at night worrying about your baby!

Cheers
