Saison kit?
Can anyone recommend a Saison kit, or something similar?
I've promised my sister I'll do something for her 40th party in June and I reckon something like a Saison would go down well.
Reckon I ought to get it on soon too, to give it time to condition. How long does a Saison kit take to reach maturity (bottled)?

Here you go.
Haven't tried it myself, but it may give you some ideas.

Brilliant! That looks just the ticket, thanks! Should be a nice, strong, flavoursome brew.
I'll let you all know how I get on.

I'm picking up the last bits n bobs to brew this next weekend so it'll be interesting to compare notes

Indeed it will. I'll probably go shopping next weekend - fingers crossed the homebrew shop has everything in stock...
Re: Saison kit?
Looks like in interesting recipe. I have to confess I'd be a little worried at the potential for producing bottle bombs with that much priming sugar; make sure you have good strong bottles or use PET.
Happy brewing,
Ian.

Re: Saison kit?
Good point. I was thinking of buying a supply of new bottles specially for this one, just to ensure uniformity, but that's another good reason for doing so.tazzymutt wrote:Looks like in interesting recipe. Saison kit?
Just had a trip over to Faversham Homebrew Shop to pick up the ingredients for this. Hoping to get it going this afternoon...

Re: Saison kit?
So far so good.
OG measured at 1060.
The belle saison yeast has gone off like a rocket and has a fairly strong aroma. Interesting!

You know, I'm really tempted to brew this with my last can of APA that I've got sitting here.widdersbel wrote:So far so good.

What temperature are you fermenting at?
I haven't got any Saaz, but have plenty of other varieties to choose from

Saison kit?
The FV is sitting in a water bath warmed by a 25W Eheim aquarium heater set to 20C, but I haven't calibrated it so I don't know how accurate that is.
Initial temperature when the yeast went in would have been a bit higher than 20. Maybe 24. I'm not sure. I really should get a thermometer!

Re: Saison kit?
Good stuff. Will be interested to hear how it turns out at the higher temperature. Given how lively mine has been at 20C, it's probably just as well your brewing room isn't carpeted!
I didn't rehydrate the yeast but that was an oversight rather than a deliberate policy.
