Hello. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a lot of foam with a coopers new collar style fermenter. My dark ale, (first ever brew), has been fermenting for about 18 hours now and Is threatening to overflow. It's a worry cos these style of coopers fermenter have a sit on lid.
If it lifts the lid, is it safe to just push it down again or will it have a risk of infection?
I know the cause, the room it's in is at 25 Celsius and the LCD temp gauge says about 26 to 28 so it's high.
Just needed to know if there's a lid lift the ale is saveable.
Cheers
Gappy

Re: Coopers collar fermenter foam
If you sanitised the lid along with the fermenter you should be fine. I regularly have Coopers brews hit the top of my (non-Coopers) FV.
The temperature might be more of an issue. Coopers yeast, developed for Australia, is fairly tolerant of higher temperatures, but I'd still be inclined to try to keep it below 25 and preferably between 20 and 22 to avoid off tastes, just in case. If you can move the brew to a cooler place it would be worth while doing that. You am also want to stand the brew in a bin bag or a large trug, dustbin (or similar) to catch any spillage and avoid the mess and heartache that can cause.
Happy brewing,
Ian.

Wow you must have some froth on that beer. The coopers Krause collar gives a lot more head room for the initial vigorous ferment than do most fermenter. The lid shouldn't be an issue as it's designed to allow co2 to escape whilst protecting the brew from contamination. Fear not all should be ok!
