Youngs APA kit

Post by dazzla42 » Thu Aug 07, 2014 9:27 am

Has anyone tried one of these Youngs APA kits? I am conditioning a IPA at present, but took an age to come to the end of its fermentation. from the gravity readings, i think it will come out at 6% (5.98) but when transferring from primary to keg, I am not sure how this will end up, very cloudy and the krausen residue smelt vinegary. I was thinking of temperature crashing the keg after 4 days to force the yeast out of suspension. is this normal?

Daz,
You might have a problem with the VINEGAR smell. [-o<
Type in `vinegar smell` in the `Search box`. It normally means that your Beer is infected and might be ruined. [-o<
Hope it turns out OK!

Done an APA v similar, in the FV for a month another before it was drinkable. Well worth the wait. Came in around 5.4% if memory serves :-)

There's an awful lot of yeast with these Youngs craft beer kits to start with!

I left mine in the FV well over two weeks before bottling, then had to wait 6 weeks before I could pour a bottle without plumes of the residue lifting.

Patience is the key. It settled in the end and fasted awesome for the wait!!!

I didn't have any vinegar smell mind you!

Patience..... easier said
I transferred this to king keg, as i thought the worst. I have fridge conditioned it for about a week and a half, and thought i would try some. considering its still a little cloudy (remember the patience bit) it is bang on, light in colour, hoppy and if my calculations are right about 6% ABV. Only issue is over carbonation dispensing from the Keg... and pointers?

130g priming sugar
King keg top tap
12deg for about one week

I've just had a bottle of this which was 3 months old!

WOW!!!

I can't even begin to tell you how good it was!

The hops had mellowed just slightly, the citrus flavours were coming through a bit more and the head sat on it like beaten egg whites all the way down the glass (...although admittedly the glass didn't last that long!).

Make this kit, bottle it, then forget about it for a while. I think this is even better than the Festival Golden Stag for pale ale fans! =D>

I bought the American amber ale which I've not done yet. Anyone tried that?

This kit is brilliant....hoppy, smooth, flavour packed...after three weeks, yes just three, I cracked a bottle open and the aroma, fragrance call it what you wish is fab. The flavour is superb....better than most beers found in pubs. Just watch the pour ... Yeats a bit loose, but doesn't affect flavour.....well recommended.

Ah hold on....I did the AAA kit....but I would think the IPA kit is just as good.

I'm down to my last gallon or so in my keg, it's 3 months old. It's the best kit i've brewed. I'm saving the last for the weekend. It tastes very similar to sierra nevada.
I've just bought the amber ale today & can't wait to get that one on the go.
