And for my next brew?

Post by Wekslap » Thu Aug 14, 2014 9:42 pm

Hiya brew wizards. Got my first brew in 20 odd years now bubbling and foaming away. Its coopers English bitter. I was wondering what to brew next when its finished?

I have a wilkos golden ale and a wherry. Also would there be any benefit to me and to improve either of these kits by pouring them straight onto the coopers bitter yeast sediment in my fv? Can this be done? And if so how best to do it?

Also any tried and tested simple tweaks for either of these kits eg honey or golden syrup or dark granulated sugar etc?

Or should I ring the changes and buy me a Wilkos or coopers (erzatz) lager, ( or brown ale)?

Hi

I wouldn't bother trying to brew on the Coopers yeast cake. It can be worth doing if you are using an expensive liquid yeast, and want to get your moneys worth, but as both of your other kits come with a decent yeast, I wouldn't add any complication to your 2nd brew.

Only you can decide what to brew next, but I would recommend brewing the Wherry exactly to the instructions first so that you have a benchmark of the kit for future tweaking! If we assume that the Wilko GA kit is similar to a Woodfordes Sundew (not much flavour), then it may be worth sticking a jar/bottle of decent honey into the FV.

Cheers

Slaps; Why wait? FV's are dirt cheap. Get another one ~ or two ~ and crash straight on, mate. Get that roll over deal going on.

If ye anything like me? (A f**king Animal!) Ye'd need half a dozen kits a month, going constantly, to keep up.

If ye more a few pints a night sort of man? Good for you. But, imagine how relaxed ye could be about stuff being left to condition ~ for ever! ~ if ye had brews backing up.

Either way, I just can't comprehend how anyone would work on the basis of 1. Make a brew. 2. Drink it. 3. Say how nice That was. Then wait most of a month (drinking what?) while they got the next one together.

Be interested to hear your take on this .....

I have it on good authority that in an instance such as this you need to drink Karpackie and none other

Image Undeniably, that stuff'll help ye make it through the night. Yeah!

But, the crafty sods are gently sneaking the price up. And, cheap as it is ~ comparatively ~ it's a bugger on the bank balance!

Thanks MB and Ditch.

I'll buy another FV tomorrow. And I'll use honey with the golden ale. Have many people tried that tweak with ga? Which one would be the most contrasting to the coopers English bitter between the GA and the Wherry? As I'd like a bit of a difference between my first 2 brews.

Thanks again

John

The Golden Ale will be the most different from the Coopers English Bitter.
The Cooper's site has some good recipes for tweaking their kits.
