Hi All,
I am currently brewing a wilko real ale kit, i posted earlier this week, asking if i had mucked it up as i couldn't get the temperature down to less than 24 deg (according to the temperature strip on the side of my FV) and i had added my yeast regardless and nothing happened for nearly 24hrs. i was told to be patient...
right heres the thing..the yeast went mad, my air lock was bubbling away frantically for about a day and a half, now it has stopped abruptly, there is obviously gas in the lock as the water is not level, do i just leave it ?? give it a bit of a stir ??? The box says leave in the vat for 4-6 days (its been 2-3 days) i was thinking of leaving it for 10 days, before putting it in a barrel (then possibly leaving it for xmas)
any advice ? suggestions ??
The smell is fantastic by the way
Rango
quick question please

Re: quick question please
Rango; Rip that silly strip off and ram it up the airlocks arsehole.
Then leave the bucket alone for anything between a total or five to eleven days. Then; Enjoy.
Fact is, the strip's probably about as much use as the bubbler. But, either way, the Physical actions of the beer show it's probably just done a mad ferment. It'll get incrementally better for several days yet.
For a fuller understanding of what I'm on about, ye may (or may not!) wish to bother ye arse trawling through pages and pages of sh!t, on my thread in the Stickies Board, top of this boards main page. ("Ditch's Stout ").
Or, ye may just take me at my word and see .....

Re: quick question please
I'm with Ditch on this, no airlock and no stick on thermometers in my beer making kit. Just leave it alone for a while to finish and don't believe the 4-6 days that some marketing type wrote against the advice of the brewer who developed the kit. I give pretty much everything 14 days in primary (Ditch's Stout brewed at 22C being a special case as it's prettty much finished at five days...)
I'll be impressed with your self control if you can leave it until Christmas, but if you can, you are also likely to be impressed with the brew, conditioning really does make a difference (again A DS seems to be the exception that prove the rule).
Happy brewing,
Ian.
PS Read the whole of Ditch's sticky thread; there are parts to make you laugh, bits that make you weep and even some bits that will educate you and all in Ditch's inimitable style
