wilko pressure barrel seal twisted

Post by Wekslap » Sat Sep 06, 2014 11:28 pm

Sorry if this has been posted before. Just had first trial taste of my coopers bitter from barrel and wad no pressure. I primed to 91 gr cos thats all i had when i barrelled it over a week ago. I repressurised with a small co2 bulb but it didnt last two minutes. I took a deep breath and unscrewed the cap and ithe white rubber ring was twisted despite reading up beforehand about greasing it with vaseline. Maybe i did it wrong. I tried to reset it in place but every time i get three quarters of it in and then press in part of one side slips out again. Naybe im missing something obvious but what if anything can i do? I dont want to lose my hard earned first brew. My baby!

Just sounds, to me, like ye've listened to so much white noise that ye've made an abortion out of what shouldn't even matter :(

I use these el cheapo, white, plastic BK's. Have done for years. Use and re use the same pair. Over and over and over. How come I've simply never had a problem, look?

Tell a lie! The handle on a tap broke off, short while ago. How about that? Take a cheap plastic lever and push it back and forth for god knows how many hundreds of pints. ONE finally gives up the ghost. One, after Years. You f**k up in days ....? One of us is doing something wrong.

Ye put Vaseline on ye ring? Funny. I don't.

Ever heard about my ten year old girl? She lives in my head. When ever I pour a pint and reach for the cap, to twist it shut again, she appears in my finger tips. Hers is all the strength my hand then has to twist that lid shut. She's a bit pathetic. But, I always let her seal the cap off and she's never let me down yet.

God knows what might happen if I grabbed it and unleashed my own, grown manly testosterone on that cap. Wrenched it tight enough to show it who's boss. I'd probably unleash all sorts of problems.

Just my thoughts anyway. And I Do do a reasonable amount of this stuff :|

Hi had similar issue myself once, sounds like you have vaselined both sides of ring ?
Suggest you remove ring wipe off as much Vaseline as you can and then boil some water and put in a Pyrex jug or something that will stand boiling water , drop ring in for a couple of mins which will reshape it if it's gone deformed slightly
Remove , dry and having cleaned the inner cap of Vaseline too around the seal area then try reinserting said ring and if it seats properly then apply a little PTFE tape to outer thread on barrel then smear some Vaseline around exposed part of ring and thread. fit to pressure barrel and only hand tighten
Worked for me

I also had same problem so went out and bought 2 new seals at £1:33 each.Hardly broke the bank at Monte Carlo but the hot water trick sounds worth a go.

Thank you all. Very much. Touch wood and fingers and toes crossed it seems to be retaining the pressure now. I was in a reet panic at the time. I sort of did what you said wherry. Only I did it it half thinking half panicking. Thanks all for your advice. Ten year old girl fingers Vaseline and order more rubber seals. Will do all from now on.

Quick update.beer seems okay and barrel seems holding pressure. Pours okay with a head but beer itself seems bit flat tasting. Should I reprime do you think?
