Contents of a Hambleton Bard "Supreme Lager" kit?

Got given one of these kits as i was looking around for something in my local shop. I was given it as it is out of date at the end of the month. Has anybody had one of these kits and if so what are they like?

The only reason i ask is because i am thinking of only using the malt that is included with it for use with one of my coopers beers, would this be ok?

Or if anybody recommends the kit i'll probably stick with it

Cheers DaaB, yeah i'll probably do that, my wifes gonna go bloody mental though, i have a Real Ale on the go (nearly finished fermenting) a Lager to do after that, the Hambleton Bard i have just been given to use up before it expires at the end of the month and i have just ordered 2 Coopers Sparkling Ales

We've only just cleared the spare room, looks like it'll be full of homebrew in a couple of months!

Incidentally, how long do you think the hambleton bard kit will be good for, the expiry date is for the end of August 07 bu ti never pay any attention to expiry dates anyway

I'd probably make sure I do I rehydrate the yeast (rather than pitching directly) to make sure its still viable. If it doesn't foam up after 30 mins then try another packet.

A couple of years back I did a Brubox kit that was nearing the end of its BB date. I pitched the yeast directly onto the wort (exactly as the instructions told me) but it failed to come back to life. I ended up pouring the lot down the sink not knowing why it had failed If only I'd known about this site back then, might have rescued it!
