Time for a golden ale?
Time for a golden ale?
Hi all. If I was to start a wilko two can golden ale now, what's the chances might be drinkable by Xmas? 33 days to go.
Also, possible slight problem, or not?. My main FV is full of export. Been in a week, which I was thinking of barreling.
But I have an empty PB at present and an empty FV with little bottler tap which up tilI now I have been using just for final bulk prime before bottling. By the way do you still need to do this if you are going to barrel your beer?
Hope this makes sense. I'm not the most logical of thinkers!
Is this do-able?
Thanks
John

Re: Time for a golden ale?
In reverse:
You don't need to bulk prime if you are barreling, just add to the barrel before you start.
33 days is quite short, but doable. Get it on tonight, 7 days to ferment (if you keep it warm) into a barrel and condition for 3 weeks.

Thanks HB. I forgot to mention. I also have plenty of empty bottles and caps.

Up to you, I gave up on bottling about 20 years ago
Way too much hassle cleaning/sanitizing/bottling, when a clean barrel is so quick...
I have heard of people drinking from bottles after 7 days, but YMMV. I tend to barrel leave for as long as possible (3 weeks min, pref 4+) and then drink, if I am short brew more

Re: Time for a golden ale?
Thing is I'll have a golden ale and a Scottish export to bottle and barrel and only one barrel!
Any suggestions from anyone which would be better served from which method?

Re: Time for a golden ale?
I found that barrelling a brew tends to make it evaporate. For some reason it never lasts as long as if I'd bottled it. This may be something to do with that it is very easy to reach over and top up a glass.

Hee hee. Strange. I've found that too. Pixies thru the night I think.

I thought it was just my barrel that had this problem! Every time I looked at it, my glass was full!
It just keeps calling me, `Here I am, Taste me again ya wimp`!
