Barrell half drunk, bottle the rest?

Post by bob hart » Wed Dec 03, 2014 9:52 pm

Hi all,

My first Wherry went down well and after the weekend I have approximately half of it left in the barrel. Can I just leave it in there and drink it as I go along, or should I bottle what is left? I don't have a CO2 cylinder on the barrel.

If bottling if preferred, can I just put it in screw top wine bottles?

A screw top wine bottle can't take any pressure... so unless you want flat beer you cannot bottle in a wine bottle.

no idea about whether you can get away with bottling after being in the barrel. I guess maybe.

Are you needing the barrel for something else? The beer will be quire happy in there right through till you've finished it.

Bob; If ye figure to down the rest next weekend? I'd leave it as is, till then. If ye not that sort of drinker? In this kind of case, a CO2 bulb (and fitting) would do to take care of it till ye do get round to it.

Half a barrel in a weekend though? Good man!

I couldn't, personally, be doing with frigging about, bottling half a keg of anything. Saying that? I s'pose ye could always decant it into PEP bottles? Free up ye BK for the next one 8)

Thanks guys, if it's OK in the barrel for the moment I'll just leave it in there.

Will get some more on the go soon though, was very happy with my first go
