Woodfordes Nog Kegging

Post by tkerby » Thu Aug 30, 2007 10:35 am

I'm about to keg my first beer - a Woodfordes Nog. ANy recommendations on kegging it?

- What is the gravity I should be aiming for - 1.006 as recommended in the shop or higher as I've seen on forums?
- What sugar would you use? I've been recommended Caster but some have used Muscavado for a better final flavour
- Should I add some dissolved sheet gelatine to help clear the beer? THere is loads of crud floating in it at the moment. If so, how much?
- Should I add a filter to my siphon such as some sterilised muslin over the inlet of the pipe to avoid siphoning the crud?

I agree with Daab...I primed my Nog with Muscovado using the above method and so far so good.
I'm just dying to drink it!!!

I went with 50% white caster, 25% raw molasses and 25% light muscavado. The sugar mix tasted really nice and I thought it might add a hint of Old Peculiar (which I believe treacle is used to coat the barrel). Tried a bit from the tap when mixed and whilst a little sweet and yeasty, it's showing a lot of promise.

Ended up at 1014 which I'm fairly happy with - should give about 3.3% plus the contribution from the sugar (any way to calculate this?)

Now to get something else on so I can keep some of the Nog over the winter. Any ideas for something light and refreshing. I'm thinking along the lines of "Real Ginger Bits" from bridge of allan that had large chunks of giner thrown in the bottle. Kit recommendations welcome
