Coopers Stout Again! FFS!

Post by WalesAles » Thu Mar 12, 2015 8:47 pm

Hello Boys and Girls! Only Me! :D #-o

Brew to 19Lts
1 Can Coopers Stout
1Kg Med Spraymalt
2 mugs Demerara Sugar (Ditch`s recipe calls for 1 mug) there were 27 grains of sugar left in the bag, so I bunged that in as well! 500Gr Total.
50Gr Wakatu Hops 5 Min Boil in 2Lts water
SG @22deg 1054
Day 7 Dry Hop with 50Gr Wakatu.

Great Brew Day, Had a Coopers APA, then a Mango Weiss, then a Competition ESB, then a Sinatra Stout, then try cleaning all my Brew Gear! :D :D #-o #-o
Oh, Yes, Mrs Ales in work, HeHeHe!

Looks like a good stout base.

What made you choose Wakatu for this brew? What are your other 12 varieties, you can't just leave us hanging with the '13 different hops for £1' statement.

We need the hop types, we need to be easily led

Come on WA

MB,
I`ve done a Coopers Stout with Sylva and it was great! Wakatu was chosen in a `Blind` pick what comes out of the Freezer first Test! :D As you do! :D
I only bought nine because I don`t do bittering.

Nugget
Mount Hood
Boadicea

Oh, and something else! :D #-o
1Kg Amber Malt
500Gr Carared

ELC at it`s best! I should not have gone to `Morley Homebrew`! :D

Pint of Mango Graff calling, Must Go! :D :D

Crystal Rye eh, alot of posh people are using this malt!

Haven't used Wakatu, but it's apparently well suited to lager, you can get black lager these days though :=P

Bottled this today, 70.3gr sugar batch prime.
FG 1010 ABV 6% approx.
Lovely silky taste from the FV. :D
Even Loveliererer taste from the FV after priming!
Taste the Hops? No, dont be so silly! Why bother Hopping a Stout? No smell of Hops at all, but that Silky Smooth Mouthfeel is Great! :D

I reckon the Coopers Stout has just got too much flavour as standard for hops to show in the finished brew.

That Wilko Velvet stout with Amarillo that i did worked nicely, because that kit was less of a premium one and obviously wasn't as tasty.

The hops don`t shine through to my untrained palate! They give a Silky Mouthfeel to the Beer!
I will send one to MB on Monday, He likes a bit of FREE BEER and he is a better `Taster` than myself! :D

I don't remember Fursty Ferret being this dark!

Cheers for this WA, I'm going to sample it on Monday evening after working the entire bank holiday weekend.

I sampled this brew on Monday after the yeast had settled back to the bottom of the bottle after Royal Mail had delivered it.

It opened with a good hiss and poured with a fairly large head, but this soon disappeared.

As you can see from the picture, the colour it is jet black which is always pleasing to the eye.

Certainly no sign of any hops in the aroma, just that distinctive Coopers stout liquorice smell. Again no sign of any hopping in the flavour either, but the there wasn't quite the same intense flavour that you normally get from a Coopers Stout, maybe the hops have muted things a bit or perhaps my tastebuds were below par.

It's certainly very easy to drink for a 6% stout, with no hint of alcohol heat or any odd flavours from the yeast, so a very well presented brew from Mr Wales as usual.

My only small criticism is that it lacked it bit of body for me, but that's just personal taste.

Thanks again WA

Cheers
