Bitter

We don't tend to get a lot of bitter over here but anytime I've tried it in England I rather liked it which is why I went for a bitter for my first brew. Now, I was reading Oliver and Geoff's there and happened to notice that bitter tends to be brewed with pale malt. I used dark spraymalt in place of brewing sugar so what sort of result can I expect this coming Sunday when I first sample it? As it's a kit but I've modified it can I give it my own name rather than calling it Young' Brew Buddy Bitter?
