Souping up a kit

I've got a Linthwaite Light kit that's gone out of date. I'm worried that the hop bag might be getting a bit tired so I was wondering if it might be worth adding some real hops - e.g. by boiling them up in water and adding to the wort. If so, how many grammes should I use and how long should I boil for.

I've not got any facilities for boiling up the wort (waiting for a boiler from Hop & Grape) - so it will essentially be a cold brew.

If it was most other kits out of date I would think about playing about with new hops, yeast etc. But brupacs are quality and that kit as it is will be fine. Changing the old yeast for new wouldn't do any harm mind.
Good luck!
