Youngs Definative Lager

Post by frany8472 » Mon Nov 05, 2007 8:29 pm

Hello i started my brew last thurdays. the start gravity was 1042 i used brewkit enhancer in stead of suger, the current reading is 1013, the kit says it should reach 1006. the reading hasnt changed in 48 hours. i have read on here that brewkit enhancer can increase the final reading, if so would it increase it by that much? or shall i follow standard suggestions for stuck fermentation.. btw temp is constantly 20-23C

Cheers

I say it's done. Leave it another day to be sure then bottle it.

I haven't done that kit but I think 1006 is a bit optimistic - that's roughly 85% attenuation. You've got about 70% which is pretty much an acceptable result.

You could rouse the yeast with a couple of gentle stirs of your sanitized long-handled spoon/paddle and leave it a couple more days. Aiming for 1010, but bottle it anyway if there's no change.
I brew therefore I ... I .... forget

one that always works for me, is the addition of a small amount (2 teaspoons) of spraymalt

I have mentioned it before, but basic theory (mine) is that at the final stage of fermentation the yeast is working though the tougher to break down sugars and is tired. if you give it some nice easy malt to break down it gets smacked off its tits and builts up momentum to finish off the rest of the brew. try it..
