Heater Pad

I often use a Vina heater pad for the initial stage as the kitchen can get a tad chilly at night. Am I OK to use the heater pad for the full approx 10 days fermenting? Should I turn off after a couple of days? Also when I barrel and keep warm for first 2/3 days is it OK to use the heater pad again? I presume the heater pad is designed to keep the brew at the correct tempature?
