Brewzilla Bottom Filter Plate doesn't fit Grainfather

Post by Doreblade » Wed Jul 22, 2020 1:28 pm

I received a new brewzilla 35l bottom plate filter today from Angel HB - was excited as this GF upgrade has its many plaudits - but it just won't fit in.

If I press it down it with a lot of force will probably squeeze in with a bit of bending/buckling but I doubt if it will ever come out again without serious damage all round, so I'm not going to force it. There's already minor scratching on my GF walls after my first and only try to insert it.

Anyone else had this problem before I return it?

Begs the question too - did I stupidly buy the wrong thing....?

FWIW it has to be bent a bit to fit a Brewzilla too. Speak to Angel to confirm

I brought a similar filter from Ali express sometime ago. Mine was a good fit in the Grainfather however I only used it a couple of times before going back to using the original filter or the BAC spring filter I made for the GF.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

I contacted Angel HB today and very sadly for him it looks like he's received a bad or incorrect batch of parts. He's contacting the supplier to find out what's happened.

If it helps you or Paul, it should be 295mm diameter.

Mine is 298mm - not a big difference but enough.

And it looks different in design...I'll let AHB sort it out.

It does however look a more of a sturdy design than the plate I have.

I also bought one from aliexpress and stopped using it. It killed the boil for me, it still let lots of pellet matter through and increased the scorching on the bottom. I would just try to get your money back.

Additional filters like this are about stopping Whole hops blocking the pump, if used for whirlpooling or even transferring. Fine pellets are a different issue. Mine works fine and no probe with boil ever.
