Klarstein Mundschenk power settings
How do the Klarstein/Brewdevil/Guten 30L kettles set the different power settings, 100W to 2500W? I've looked at the circuits and it looks like for the lower settings it pulses the smaller element, medium settings the larger element and higher settings maybe the large element is on all the time and the smaller one pulsed?
That's just my interpretation anyway, but the problem is mine has stopped working, seems to be set to full power all the time. The elements can be switched off though, so it's not a case of the relays stuck on, seems to be more likely a problem in the controller which I assume is built into the display. Angel Homebrew do the PCB and display together and look to have one left, but does anywhere do just the display?

The short answer is yes.
Most probably uses a ssr.
You cannot turn electric down like gas, so you turn it on /off very quickly. Halt time on & half time off equals 50%. Infinity variable. BUT the chippies don't like full power.... So you use multiple elements.
Sounds like the ssr is busted.
That can (sometimes) been sourced and replaced it you are handy with a soldering iron. If there is room, cut the legs and use stripped 3amp choc blox and screw another on.

Re: Klarstein Mundschenk power settings
I had a look at the PCB and it's the same as the Brewdevil board and display which Angel Homebrewing stock. It uses relays, not SSR's, and I'm sure they are still working as the elements still work, and switch on and off. They are just not being told what to do correctly .
The kettle is still under guarantee but Klarstein won't fix it, they either want me to send it back and refund me the price, or I can keep it and they will give me £15!! I've told them the parts will cost me £75 so we'll see what offer they come back with

Why not send it back?

I got it at a 40% discount, depends whether they offer me the price paid back or the current cost on their website - as they refused to replace it I'm pretty sure it's the former To be honest I only bought it because it was such a good price, and all the bits I'd bought to build my own were still sitting in the box 3 years later

Surely you have the right to a replacement or repair as well as to a refund?

Beat me to it. Cost is irrelevant to your rights.

Re: Klarstein Mundschenk power settings
Totally agree with you Cobnut and Mashbag, but I really can't be bothered to argue too much with them. They upped their offer from £15 to £45 to fix it myself, so I've taken them up on that and bought the complete PCB and display replacement from Angel Homebrew, hopefully that will work and I'll have a brand new PCB left over if anyone needs a replacement.

Result. I understand your thinking.

I'd be looking for a triac/thyristor on the control board.

Once it is out, is there chance to investigate & repair to create a backup/spare?

Re: Klarstein Mundschenk power settings
Got the replacement boards from AHB today, and as I suspected it is the controller/display board that is faulty. The control for the relays are two lines direct from the controller, so it can only be something wrong internally in that, or the specific part of the memory dealing with the power settings has been corrupted. The controller is a Nuvaton N76E003AT20 (8051 style), which I have no experience of, or access to any compatible ICP to read the flash memory on it, so at the moment nothing I can do with it. I'll see if I can find one at a reasonable price.

Good news. You were right and the KM will soon be brewing.
Sad news. You can't easily fix that.

Have you traced out the power side of the relays? my guess is the relays are selecting individual elements, and something else is doing the power control,The control for the relays are two lines direct from the controller,
