The BM itself is not wifi enabled so updating over the net that way is not a possibility.
A Speidel WiFi adapter is £140
A Speidel cable to plug into a PC is £35
The cable consists of a RS232 usb converter and a Binder 5 pin connecter. I could make a cable myself but would need to know the pinout of The BM binder connecter. The Binder connecter has a long lead time currently so just buying the relevent cable would work for me at the moment.

I didn’t realise they sold the cable to end users now.
They pin out has already been figured out btw.

Unless you started using the kit it a new way that coincided with it starting to skip steps, I can't see how the problem is caused my firmware. Did they elaborate?

Yeah, that occurred to me. Was left thinking, "update to the latest blah.." is a standard help desk answer, and they cross fingers that you never ring back.

It is second on the list after "have you turned it off and on again"

Fingers crossed for you.

My thoughts exactly, at least "standard answer #1" doesn't cost £35.

Once you get software involved though it is worth trying an update in case something has corrupted. It might be worth seeing if a local member would help out upgrading via their Wi-Fi module.

It is a worthwhile cable to have. It would certainly be in my brewshed if I had a modern machine.

Hi

I plan to do a dummy brew with a new battery only (no software update) this weekend I will replicate my standard overnight mash but during the day.
Will hold off on buying a cable or atttempting an update untill then.
If it still skips steps after that I can risk an update and if that fails I go to Brau-Father plan.

When you have the cable and have done the update can you report back on how you did it and what differences you see, for example, do you get some of the options that the newer versions have like delayed starts and more hop additions?
And would you lend me the cable, for a fee? :D
