GrainFather G30 Connect questions

Post by Nashbrew » Thu Sep 01, 2022 2:00 pm

Hi
I am just about to embark on a project to attach a G30 connect controller to a Braumeister BM20. (The Brau-Father)
Being unfamiliar with the G30 controller, I need to answer some question before I just make smoke.

Does the G30 have a pump rest periods in the mash stages?
Also does the pump automatically stop at a temperature during the boil?
The reason I need to know is this is standard BM20 pump is not rated to pump above around 85℃ where as the G30 pump is rated at a much higher temp.

I didn't know the GF pump was higher rated.

Could you wire up and do a no malt tube, low volume water (just cover the elements) test?

Hi Mash
Yes GF pump is much higher rated.
Project has stalled a bit recently but I did find out that the GF30 controller does not pump rest
This would be an issue on an overnight mash (my prefered brewday)
I may have to do a test daytime brew to see things go with no pump rest periods or rethink.

Does that pump need a rest?

I think I am misunderstanding you...

Bit late to the party on this one, can confirm no pump rest. The BM only uses one so that the grain which has been forced against the top plate has a chance to settle down.

As for mashing over night, might be in principal be a good idea but if you get a blockage or stuck mash you might end up with a few problems. (BTW the only time I have had a blockage with a G30 is last weekend when brewing a Toast beer).

G30 + Bac Spring + False bottom + MT rolled plate and mesh is my preferred filter system :)

Overnight mashing is a game changer. But I agree it isn't for beginners. You need to understand your setup first and have a few runs under your belt.

I use 20c holding overnight & I do think the grain is nicely settled and ready to go. That said I cured "wort fountains " by fixing the top disc.
