My mixed grape and strawberry concoction
My mixed grape and strawberry concoction
I've just acquired 5kg of mixed grapes (and a few strawberries)
Here's what I've done..
Crushed the fruit
Campden tablets added
Left over night
Added 2kg of sugar dissolved in boiling water
Added a small tin of white grape extract
Added 2 and a half tsp pectolase
Top up with cold water until gravity of 1.090 was achieved
Wine yeast and nutrient added
Two day later remains of fruit removed
Result = 13 litres of rose wine bubbling away nicely

That sounds nice, Brewhunter! Be interesting to see how it turns out. I managed to get hold of a load of grapes last year for a gallon, it's maturing nicely in the demijohn. I've made gallons of wine in the past, but this is the first time from grapes

I did do one last year and it was easily as good as a kit, it was made with black grapes and kind of has a slightly artificial taste like grape flavour bubblegumMarkA wrote:That sounds nice, Brewhunter! I've still got about 6 bottles left which I'm trying to save as long as I can to see how it matures.

Looking good!
Re: My mixed grape and strawberry concoction
Just finished my first bottle of this and it's gorgeous,
Better than any rose I've bought (admittedly I've never paid more than £10 for a bottle )
I'll definitely be doing this one again..

Where do you get the tin of white grape extract?
Re: My mixed grape and strawberry concoction
most home brew shops will stock it, I think mine was 'youngs' brand like this one

Re: My mixed grape and strawberry concoction
I fancy making a real Bubblegum flavoured wine, does this taste really Bubblegum?
Any recipes or ideas in how to make a Bubblegum flavoured wine, do you just add Bubblegum flavouring?

Re: My mixed grape and strawberry concoction
I've done this.. made a white wine and added 15 drops of flavouring per bottle before drinking

Re: My mixed grape and strawberry concoction
Providing you keep the ABV something sensible (~10%) then fermenting with a belgian ale yeast @ 22-25 degrees will give bubblegum flavoured esters without the need for artificial chemicals...nursebetty wrote:I fancy making a real Bubblegum flavoured wine, does this taste really Bubblegum?
