Alternative to sugar in elderflower wine recipe

Post by j444fog » Tue Jun 05, 2018 12:53 pm

Does anyone have any advice on what I could use as an alternative to sugar when creating a elderflower wine? I normally brew ale, for which the primary source of fermentable sugars is all barley grain, and I want to avoid the use of cane sugars in the wine. I'm thinking possibly it would have to be grape juice, and if so, does anyone know where I can source wine grape juice as opposed to supermarket concentrate.
Or are there other sources of clean fermentable sugars that can be recommended?
Thanks

You could also make an elderflower beer. There are a number of commercial beers that use elderflower.

You can use grape concentrate, as well as regular grape juice if it omits certain preservatives.

Lastly you can use honey or apple juice

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking of doing an elderflower beer as well, if only I could make it like the purple moose elderflower.... 😉
