Unexpected ingredient

Post by Rookie » Sun Jan 09, 2022 3:02 pm

What's the most "unusual" cider ingredient anyone's used? Some years ago I made a coconut cider: 3 gallons (11.5L) of plain apple juice and 1 pound (.45kg) of flaked, dried, unsweetened coconut.
I'm just here for the beer.

Strawberry surprise Merlot. From red grapes.
Surprise was no strawberrys 🤣

Botanicals for gin can be quite surprising - black peppercorn.

Tin of lychee is prolly my personal best!

I added 1 can Best Bitter Kit to my Cider Brew.

I guess for me chestnuts. Normally nuts are avoided as an adjunct because of their fat content (and possibly you might also say having no place in beer ) but they ended up giving a very similar taste to Ragus Invert #1.

Not that unusual here.

Two other breweries are Bourganel and Combel.
The chestnuts are added in the form of flour to the mash.
